Some volunteers have dubbed this smelly vine, pumpkin vine, based on its orange, warty fruits. Wild balsam apple (Momordica charantia) is another name for this weedy exotic.
Inside this orange fruit are small, jagged seeds covered in a red pulp, This part of the plant, known as an aril, is edible, but other parts can be poisonous.
At ORCA, I have seen cardinal peck at orange fruits to get at the tasty arils.
