Volunteer Jean ‘JJ’ Romano asked for the name of this white flowered vining plant that she encountered near the second wetland crossover bridge when she was working to control invasive plants on Wednesday. The common name of the vine is climbing hempvine. The scientific name is Mikania scandens.
Scandens refers to its climbing habit. Mikania honors a 19th centruy botanist, Jospeh Gottfried Mikan.
