Great Southern White (Butterfly)

Nancy Soucy (Class of 2011) sent this wonderful photo of a great southern white butterfly nectaring on sea oxeye daisy (Borrichia frutescens). The turquoise tips on the antennae help to identify this butterfly species.

Saltwort (Batis marítima) is one of the larval host plants for this coastal butterfly and is abundant at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge pictured here at the Joe Michael Overlook of the recently flooded Pete’s impoundment …
