Bob Montanaro and I had just sat down on the viewing platform at the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area, when a juvenile tricolor heron (Egretta tricolor) landed on the railing. Bob could not get to his camera bag without disturbing our young visitor, so I did my best. Its reddish coloration attests to its youth. Ken Gonyo reported seeing 4 young tricolor herons on his Saturday nature walk a few days later.
So, please do not forget to visit the viewing platform (located just a few steps to the east of where the mosquito control dike trail turns north to the Observation Tower) for tranquil, scenic views …
