Dusky Dame

All of the photos that I have taken of great southern white butterflies (Ascia monuste) have been males. Finally, today, Mother’s Day, a female finally posed for me in my own yard on common beggarticks (Bidens alba). Note her dusky coloration that marks her as a female. Common beggarticks, though very weedy, does seem to be a butterfly magnet and, in this case, a chick magnet, too.
