Ken Gonyo (Class of 2012) sent fabulous photos of his “company” when he was working to control the rampant air potato (Dioscorea bulbifera) at Audubon House: A beautiful Florida box turtle (Terrapene carolina bauri). The bright yellow radiating stripes on its high dome are characteristic of the Florida subspecies.
Note the sharp claws and beak on this turtle that allow it to feast upon small insects, as well as fruits, veggies & fungi. This species like moist places but does not swim.
