Handsome hickory!

Water hickory (Carya aquatica) was looking wonderful at the Cypress Bend Community Bend Preserve on 4-10-2016. A deciduous tree of wet but well-drained soils along stream banks and flood plains throughout the southeastern U.S., water hickory often is dominant species in these areas.

In the more upland areas at Cypress Bend Community Preserve, the water hickory sported fully-formed odd pinnate leaves.
