A rather formidable looking but harmless spider, Leucauge argyra, has taken up residence in the Audubon House vegetable garden, a demonstration garden of the square-foot gardening technique. This spider is welcomed in most gardens since the species eats mainly insects harmful to plants and people, especially mosquitoes, which makes for the best natural pest control. Leucauge argyra is noted for being colonial with others of its species building nests nearby. This one particular individual appears to be alone at the moment.
